Can Aloe Vera Help with Sunburn Relief?

Trail running is not without its perils, not least of which is getting a sunburn. So you may wonder, can aloe vera help with sunburn relief?

Assuming it is a minor sunburn — and do note that if you have a severe sunburn you should seek medical attention — there are several different ways for you to treat it at home naturally. Whenever you are suffering from a sunburn that is minor, be sure to immediately apply cold to the area, but not so cold as to cause skin damage. Running cold water over a small burn or perhaps applying a cold compress to a larger burn is an excellent way for you to immediately cool the area and help with the healing process. There are also some other natural things that you can do which can help with this, such as applying aloe vera to the area.

Aloe Vera has long been known for its healing properties, especially where burns and sunburns are concerned. You can purchase aloe Vera gel at almost any store that sells health items. You may also want to consider applying it directly from the plant, itself. For the many health benefits of aloe, it is worth considering growing some in your home, as a houseplant, so it is available anytime you need it.

The real secret to using aloe vera properly is to apply it to the area in a proper way. Some people simply rub down the area with the open end, but you’re really wasting a lot of the plant if that is the case. It is a much better idea for you to cut the leaf near where it attaches to the plant and then to slice the leaf along its entire length in order to expose all of the gel that is on the inside. You can then use this gel and gently rub it on the area, being careful not to pop any blisters that may have appeared or you can apply it directly to the area and cover with a bandage in order to keep it in place.

Aloe Vera is an excellent way for you to be able to give some soothing relief and to begin the healing process whenever you have a sunburn. As mentioned, if you have a severe burn that needs medical attention you should not try to treat it at home, but seek the help of a professional.
